ATTENTION GED CANDIDATES:

Individuals are required to take the official GED Practice Test BEFORE taking the actual GED exam.

GED candidates will be required to present an official form to the GED Test Center verifying that they have taken the practice test BEFORE they will be allowed to make an appointment to take the GED.

Contact Messick Adult Center at 416-4840 for information about the practice test and/or GED classes.

Students who make a score of 500 or higher on the Practice Test have a better chance of passing the GED.

 

All GED Candidates must have an appointment to take the GED test. Walk-ins will not be allowed to test.

 

How to make an appointment to test:

  • Register in person on Mondays and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
  • Test on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. 
  • Pay $55.00 (cash only) the day you register for your appointment.
  • Fees are not refundable and are not transferable.
  • You will need to bring with you: Social Security Card, Current Tennessee Photo ID (Driver's License), and your practice test scores on the Official Practice Test Transcript.

17- and 18-Year-Olds must also:

  • Present a certified Birth Certificate
  • Be officially withdrawn from school and have the withdrawal paper from the last school attended (A transcript is not acceptable)
  • Have a court exemption paper (17-year-olds only)
  • Have Director's/Superintendent's Recommendation form (age waiver) 

In order to receive an appointment, you must bring all of the above with you at the time you register.

 

Note: 19-year-olds who have been enrolled in high school this year must supply the same documents that an 18-year-old would need.

 

If you are a Shelby County resident, you must obtain an age waiver from the Shelby County Board.
